Oakville yoga for runners

Yoga for mindful runners 

WHEN: Mondays @ 7 p.m., starting Feb. 3

WHERE: The Space Oakville, located on Kerr St, next to Stoneys.

Runners, are you stretching enough? Through this class, you'll discover the tremendous benefits of yoga to not only stretch tight muscles, but also increase flexibility and improve performance through mindful movement and conscious breath.

REGISTER AND PAY

This yoga class is designed to:

  • stretch tight muscles that are continuously contracting (and shortening) due to the repetitive patterns of running
  • strengthen the muscles used in running as well as those that support them for proper alignment
  • Improve balance to help ensure an even gait and prevent overuse of one side
  • Build awareness of the breath to enable a more efficient function of lungs and diaphragm while running
  • Increase overall body awareness and wisdom
  • Practice focus and concentration

All of these can lead to improvements in running performance when practiced on a regular (minimum weekly) basis. 

About me:

I have 400 hours of yoga teacher training (YTT) and have been running for more than 20 years. Not only have I trained for many races, I've experienced the struggle of overcoming a stress fracture due to running. As a result, I intimately understand the runner's mind and body and have created a yoga sequence that specifically targets the physical and mental needs of a distance runner. In my yoga classes I offer modifications to invite students to safely personalize their practice. I welcome all yoga levels and, be assured, flexibility is not a pre-requisite.

REGISTER: Pre-register for a month of classes - four one-hour classes per month, $60. Single class is $18. Payment at door. 

February class package includes the dates: Feb. 3, 10, 17, 24.

March class package includes the dates: March 2, 9, 16, 30 (note: no class March 23)
